Wooden Gate Installations
We manufacture wooden gates in pressure-treated softwood timber, or with a hardwood like Idigbo. These materials expand and contract naturally based on outdoor conditions. We factor in half-an inch (12mm) of clearance to allow for the movement of wood during the warmer summer months, and when the weather turns colder. We fit single gates with closing strips, a top bolt, and a bottom bolt, followed by a latch positioned at a central height.
On wooden gates made in pairs, we add a further centre slamming strip, a top bolt and a bottom bolt, and two drop bolts which fit into the ground.
Because pressure-treated timber will warp without them, bolts and slamming strips are essential additions. We recommend installing wooden gates higher on the latch side so that as the timber dries out, the gate settles into place.
